Lowering Of Betting Age Limit Suggested

(N.Z. Preet Association) WELLINGTON. The time might have arrived when the law should be changed to allow persons under 21 to bet on race horses, the racecourse inspector (Mr T. W. Allsopp) said in a report to the New Zealand Racing Conference. He said inspectors were having difficulty preventing persons under 21 from betting at totalisator windows, particularly at night trotting meetings, which attract many young people. Sellers could not judge age accurately because of the lim-

ited view through windows and lighting conditions. Many young persons were earning high wages, he said. Many actual cases showed persons under 21 were in possession of considerable sums of money, and quite a number were married.
