MASTER DEFENCE RELEGATED FOURTH

(N.Z. Prest Association) WELLINGTON. About half a furlong from the finish of the Onslow Handicap at Trentham on Saturday, Master Defence (G. E. Reggett), which was in front, moved out suddenly, causing severe interference to the second horse, Kintyre (W. D. Skelton) and the fourth horse, Dunraven (L. N. McCutcheon). An inquiry was held and the right to charge Reggett was reserved. After the judicial committee had heard evidence and viewed the film of the race it found that the interference had occurred as alleged and decided that Master Defence be relegated to fourth. Kintyre was promoted to first, Feurig, which had finished third, went to second and Dunraven went to third. The film showed that the interference had happened suddenly and was beyond the reasonable control of Reggett, who did attempt corrective action. It was therefore decided that the right to charge Mm would not be Invoked. Treble Pulled Up

Treble CP. R. WWon) was pulled up with just under a round to go in the Winter Hurdles, and a veterinary examination showed that he had severed both tendons in fads off foreleg. After an operation yesterday morning. Treble’, leg was encased in a pilaster cast. It is

expected that he wIM be confined to his box at Trentham for two months and the veterinary surgeon who performed the operation would not comment On the chances of Its being successful. Treble was favourite for the event. Otherwise (R. J. Skelton) did not run up to his first-day form In the Crofton Handicap. He began well, but lost several places in the first two furlongs and a haM. He had a clear run in the straight and though ridden out, ran on only moderately. His rider said that Otherwise had been upset at the barrier and had started to hang early In the race. He also said that Otherwise did not travel as freely as he had on the first day. Prettypeen (R. J. Leggett) went lame in the near foreleg after doing her preliminary before the Riddiford Steeplechase and after a veterinary examination she was withdrawn. Near the top of. the straight in the Winter Oats, Vigour (B. S. Dodds) was held up when Chatty Lady (N. E. Eastwood) attempted to run In under pressure. Eastwood took immediate corrective measures and no further action was necessary. Big BUM (R. W. Taylor) stopped quickly from a leading position soon after passing the half-mile. Taylor said that this was because Big Bill was unable to handle ths ground.
