Australian Impressed (N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, July 17. The New Zealand periodic detention centres and prerelease hostels were praised yesterday by Mr J. A Morony, Controller-General of Prisons for New South Wales. Australia could benefit from a study of New Zealand’s penal system. Mr Morony said that because of differences in law it would be difficult to duplicate the New Zealand system in Australia. But he was “tremendously impressed with the efforts being made in penology. “Although we do not have any parallel to the periodic detention centre, I think it is an excellent way of dealing with the young offender,” ho said.
