WORLD RECORD
Soviet Girl Swimmer (N.Z.P. A. -Reuter—Copyright) MOSCOW. Irina Posdnyakova, a 13-year-old Moscow schoolgirl, set a world swimming record for the women’s 200 metres breaststroke in Moscow on Saturday. Her time of 2min 43sec was set during a five-nation contest with teams from the United States, Bulgaria, Norway and Poland, as well as Russia taking part. She bettered by I.6sec the ' previous record of another (Soviet swimmer, the Olympic gold medallist, Galina Prozumenschikova, who finished secnod in 2min 44.35ec, also inside her previous record. Third was Alla Grebennikova, also of Russia, in 2min 51.5 sec. Miss Posdnyakova is the youngest and tallest member of the Soviet team, at sft Ilin. Her father drowned when she was only five, and it was at that time that her mother took her to a swimming pool to make sure she learned to swim.
