Well Done, All Blacks!

In a season which has given little pleasure to those who have the interests of Rugby at heart, the manner in which the All Blacks won their match against the British Isles at Dunedin on Saturday was extremely satisfactory. This winter there has been a clear expression of distaste by the Rugby public for the undue violence and dangerous and foul play which so often diminish the standing of a fine game. At Carisbrook on Saturday the test match was played in a good spirit, with but one or two brief demonstra* tions of ruffled tempers. It was delightful, too, to see the New Zealanders converting their extremely powerful forward play into opportunities for the backs to run and pass—a policy seldom adopted in recent years. But the principal contribution the match made to Rugby was a return to sanity. If players at the top level can continue, in the remaining test matches, to set so good an example, the lead will surely be followed by those in the lower strata of our national game. For far too long, young players have sought to emulate the deplorable practices of their seniors. Saturday may have seen in the dawn of a better day.
