44,849 Public Servants
(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, July 15. Almost 7 per cent of New Zealand's labour force works for the Public Service, but the figure has been decreasing over the last 15 years, says the annual report of the State Services Commission tabled in Parliament today. In 1964 6.7 per cent of the labour force was in the Public Service, compared with 6.9 per cent in 1949. In 1949 there were 69 public servants in each 1006 of the labour force and in 1964 there were 67. Staff numbers increased In 1964 by 28 per cent. The labour force rose by 33 per cent and the population increased by 39 per cent The Public Service has 44,849 permanent and temporary staff and 19,421 casual wage workers.
