Cocktail Party
Lieutenant-General Jesus Vargas, Secretary-General of the South-east Asia Treaty Organisation, and Mrs Vargas, were introduced to members of the Canterbury Royal Commonwealth Society at a cocktail party last evening. About 60 members attended the function held at Elizabeth House. The president (Mr M. L. Bernacchi) and Mrs Bernacchi introduced the guests. General Vargas’s forthright talk on S.E.A.T.O.’s aims and achievements, and his appeal for faith in the organisation, was acclaimed by an appreciative audience. He was thanked by Mr G. Bums.
