Problem Of Excess Baggage For Games

(From Our Own Reporter) WELLINGTON. The problems of excess baggage for future New Zealand Olympic and Empire Games teams will come under serious discussion soon.

The problem, which reached 1 a peak after the Tokyo Olym-! pic Games and which is! already causing concern for, the Games team to go to; Jamaica next week, will be; considered by the New Zealand Olympic and British Empire Games Association. For Jamaica the team will have more than a half ton of < excess baggage and because < of the huge costs Involved, competitors have had their personal allocations cut from 441 b to 311 b. This will make a saving of more than 9001 b but the N.Z.0.8.E.G.A. is still faced with substantial charges for the excess baggage, most of which comprises technical equipment. The N.Z.0.8.E.G.A. will have to pay £1 a pound on excess baggage both ways. • after the Games finish In ! August. ! A decision on this meeting, .which is in addition to the 'pre-Games meeting on July ! 23-24, will be made when further details have been received. The proposed August meetings will be in Los Angeles on August 19-20. However, efforts will be made to have the dates changed so they can coincide with the New Zealand team’s two-day stop over there on the return. The New Zealand team arrives at Los Angeles on August 15 and departs on August 17.
