Serious Effect Of Riots

(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, July 15. The prison riots of last July had serious effects in the prisons industrial field, the Minister of Justice (Mr Hanan) states in the annual report of the Department of Justice tabled in Parliament today. Mr Hanan said the closing of all Auckland prison industries after the riots affected production. Although most of these industries were operating again, it was with a much reduced labour force. Because fewer prisoners were now held in Auckland, metal crushing and concrete post work had not been able to start up again. There had been some delays in delivery of tubular steel furniture and goods made in cabinetmaking shops at both .Auckland and Christchurch, ' but the backlog of cabinet orders had been overcome and I the situation was expected to I improve.
