HECTIC WEEKEND

Devotion to sport will reach its ultimate pitch this week-end when V. N. Brightwell, a Canterbury table tennis representative will attempt to wring the utmost satisfaction from a sporting weekend.

This morning at 8 o’clock he will leave Christchurch for the 230mile drive to Dunedin to watch the first Rugby test between New Zealand and the British Isles at Carisbrook. This evening he will represent Canterbury against Otago In the annual table tennis match between the associations. When the table tennis has finished, at about midnight, he will immediately drive back to Christchurch. This will give him a 24-hour mileage of about 460 miles and, although he will have passengers In his car, he intends to do all the driving himself.

He has left himself seven hours and a half to reach Christchurch as at 7.30 a.m. he is required to play in the first round of the Templeton Country Golf Club’s championships. Brightwell is on a handicap of 14.
