BIRTH-RATE IN INDIA
Advice From U.S. Doctor (N.Z P A.-KtuHr—Copyright) NEW DELHI, July 13. The American designer of the contraceptive- loop, Dr. Jack Lippes, had recommended to the Indian Government that 10 million women a year should be fitted with the loop from 1968 onwards in a report published yesterday. He said that this would lead to a drop In the birthrate which would give improved income to all Indian families by 1969. Dr. Lippes, who spent a month In India as consultant to the Government on familyplanning, also recommended relaxing the abortion laws He said that 180.000 Indiin mothers died annually from induced abortions and that thi, could only he combatted Iby affective family planning.
