Gas Company’s Comment Radiant gas heaters were the most efficient appliances yet to be developed in the space-heating field, said the chief engineer of the Christchurch Gas, Coal, and Coke Company, Ltd. (Mr E. F. Gorman) yesterday. Mr Gorman was commenting on what he described as pubiicity that had been given to criticism and comment by Mr T. H. Boyle at a meeting of the Christchurch Metropolitan Fire Board on possible hazards from badly placed radiant gas heaters. “Mr Bovle’s reference to discoloration of walls and ceilings can be applied to any heating device.” he said, “for the discoloration is in fact induced by particles of dust or dirt entrained in a convection current set up by the heating element—regardless of the fuef used to generate the heat. “Radiant electric heaters or any fuel-burning appliance, if badly installed, will induce a fire hazard.

"In the last few days, we have seen that kerosene heaters can generate carbon-black deposit and close a school, and electric fires and even blankets are also known to have caused many fires, so why particularise on gas radiants. which are the most efficient appliances yet to be developed in the space-heat-ing field?
