Royal Pardon Given

(Special Crspdt. N.Z.P.A.)

LONDON, July 14. Seventy Scottish motorists, convicted at Dundee Sheriff Court for failing to stop at a halt sign have received a Royal Pardon and had their fines refunded.

Officials of the Court have sent out 70 cheques, amounting to £287, and notified the motorists that if their licences were endorsed for the offence these endorsements will be cancelled.

The pardon, signed by the Queen on June 23, was the result of a finding by SheriffSubstitute R. A. Inglis earlier this year that the sign was “not lawfully placed” by the Dundee Corporation. .
