Crawled From Truck
A Motueka youth crawled from a window of a blazing truck after it had overturned in a ditch in Thorpe street, Motueka, at 8.25 p.m. on Tuesday, the Press Association reports.
The youth, Gary Congdon, aged 16, an engineering apprentice, escaped' with only slight singeing. He swerved to avoid a dog and the vehicle rolled into a ditch. The truck, which was owned by Mr J. Miller, of Motueka, is considered to be beyond repair. The Motueka Volunteer Fire Brigade used foam to extinguish the fire. Down Bank
A Tokoroa man was killed and three men were taken to
the Waikato Hospital after the truck in which they were travelling left the Tirau-Cam-bridge highway north of Tirau yesterday morning, went down a 12-foot bank and overturned. The man killed was George Henry Peter Harris, aged 42, a workman, of Billah street, Tokoroa. Those taken to hospital are H. Morgan C. Henry and H. Ngapo. Three of the eight occupants of the truck were in the cab, and five, including Mr Harris, were under a canopy on the tray of the truck. Killed By Train A railway storeman was killed by a train in the Frankton yards at 8.20 yesterday morning. No-one saw the accident
The man was Brinley Douglas Roberts, aged
49, married, of Weka street, Frankton. As the train to Rotorua was leaving the station the guard felt a bump and stopped the train. The body was found on the tracks. Body Found The body of a man who had been missing since Saturday night was found in the Wanganui river yesterday. He was Stanley L. Roger, aged 58, manager of Levin and Co-Murray Roberts, Ltd., Wanganui.
