SAME CHANGES

(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, July 13. No increase In total charge for bulk electricity is predicted by the New Zealand Electricty Department in its annual report tabled today in Parliament. The report made clear that in spite of increased costs of building power stations, lines and substations, and an increase in interest rates from four to five per cent, the bulk supply tariff for the next five years will be no higher than it would have been under the agreement negotiated in 1956. “The new form of tariff will bring the same

gross income as would have been obtained under the present quarterly demand tariff,” said the Minister of Electricity (Mr Shand). “This emphasises the important stabilising effect that the muchcriticised capital contribution has had on the cost of electricity.” The Minister said that after full discussions, the Supply Authorities Association agreed that for the contractual period from April 1, 1967, to March 31, 1972, the tariff for electricity purchased in bulk would be based on a charge for the annual peak demand, plus a charge for each kilowatthour.
