SAIGON GESTURE

Release Of Prisoners (N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) SAIGON, July 13. The South Vietnamese Government will release about 20 North Vietnamese prisoners on July 20, the twelfth anniversary of the signing of the Geneva Agreement that divided Vietnam. The prisoners, all identified as regular soldiers captured in battle by Government forces this year, will be handed over at the Ben Hai river bridge on the 17th parallel dividing the line. The Government sources said the release was a propaganda move to stress the fact that Hanoi had made no attempt to release any of the 34 American airmen confirmed held in North Vietnam. In a gesture to mark the Chinese New Year last January, 24 North Vietnamese prisoners were set free at the Ben Hai bridge.
