Protest Over Allocation Of Games Funds
A strong protest against the Canterbury Amateur Sports Federation’s allocation of £5O each to three non-competitors going to the Jamaica Empire Games will be made by the Canterbury Amateur Cycling Centre.
The Centre decided to take this action last evening after receiving a letter from the Avon club and a report from its delegate to the federation, Mr H. F. Litolff.
The three men granted £5O were Messrs G. Young, a time-keeper at the games, A. J. Donaldson, the swimming sectional manager, and J. A. Mclnnes, a prominent wrestling referee. Th« Avon club’s letter said that no reference had been made in a federation circular providing these men with any money.
Mr Litolff said: “I think it's a damned disgrace to give £5O
each to Mr Young. Mr Mclnnes and Mr Donaldson Mr Litolff said that he was not able to be present at the meeting when the money was allocated and he believed that the allocation had been made by Messrs H. C. Blazey—"who hasn't been there all year'— E. Lunn and Mclnnes. Mr Litolff claimed:
“Mr Young is getting a buckshee ride. He's only a volunteer going to take on a job. “Mr Mclnnes told us he was paying his own fare; he's not even a referee.
“Mr Donaldson is going as sectional manager and his fare is being paid by the N.Z.A.S.A.”
