CHILLER BEEF COMPETITIONS
Cuts Section To Be Introduced The New Zealand Meat Producers* Board has decided to introduce in the 1966-67 season a cuts competition to be judged from entries submitted in its annual district chiller-type beef competitions. Existing arrangements for the judging of steers on the hoof and on the hooks, with London judging of sides from the six best entries in each district competition, will continue. Under the new provisions of the competition a side from each of the six best carcases in the on hooks judging will be cut and judged locally as beef cuts in accordance with conditions laid down by the board. Details of these conditions will be announced shortly. Prize money will be made available by the board to cover the cuts competition as well as that which is made available as prize money for the on hooks section. The district Agricultural and Pastoral Associations will continue to be responsible for conducting the competitions. The board says that beef cuts competitions will now be put on a uniform national basis. The competitions are valuable for producers to study mare easily the desired meat contewt in eaeh section of the carcase.
