ROUTES TO COAST

Caution Urged

Motorists using the Arthur's Pass route to the West Coast were yesterday warned by the Automobile Association (Canterbury) to drive cautiously and carry chains. Late yesterday afternoon it was again freezing at Otira, and conditions were slippery, the association’s chief service officer (Mr B. A. Anderson) reported. There had been a thaw on the Lewis Pass route but motorists were still warned to exercise extreme care, Mr Anderson said. If they had chains, motorists using the Lewis Pass would be welladvised to carry them. However chains were not considered essential for this route.
