Lochore First Test Captain

WELLINGTON.
B. J. Lochore (Wairarapa) will captain the New Zealand test team against the British Isles at Carisbrook, Dunedin, on Saturday.
His appointment, and that of C. R. Laidlaw (Otago) as vicecaptain, were confirmed by the New Zealand Rugby Foothall Union’s executive last night Lochore. aged 25, the No. 8, was tipped for the cap-
| taincy after the retirement last season of W. J. Whineray. The manager-selector or coach of any team who ventures on to the playing field during an international match, whether a test or a I provincial game, will be asked Ito leave. i The union ruled last season I that the only person allowed on the field at half-time was the attendant, who carried refreshments. “It has happened several times during the tour,” the chairman (Mr T. C. Morrison) told the meeting. “It has happened even since we sent out a circular last week,” said the secretary (Mr G. H. Geddes). “Could the referee not enforce it?” asked a member (Mr J. N. Millard). Mr Morrison said that it was quite likely that referees had not been advised of the decision, as circulars usually were sent only to the respective unions. A Canterbury referee, Mr A. R. Taylor, would referee the Lions-Auckland match on July 30, the meeting was told. Mr Taylor has already refereed one of the tourists’ matches. Mr D. McKay (Hawke’s Bay) was appointed to referee the Lions - Wairarapa - Bush game at Masterton on August
Won Play-off.—K. Rosewall won the 10,000-dollar Casino professional tennis tournament by beating M. Anderson in a play-off on Sunday.
