R.S.A. Branches May Collect For Trips

The executive of the Christchurch Returned Services* Association last evening gave its authority for suburban committees to raise funds for parties to go to Australia for Anzac celebrations provided they gave adequate publicity to the specific objects of the fund raising. The executive also ruled that where money was to be raised by means of raffles approval of the executive should be sought. The action of a suburban branch in raising money independently for a detachment to visit Australia was discussed.

The president (Mr D. Barrett) sought from the executive a ruling for the future. Miss M. E. Rae said that if any suburban centre sought to raise money there was no reason why it should not provided the reason was deafly given. Mr G. McMillan said there was nothing in the association’s rules to prevent such action. The purpose was a fine one. Such efforts might help to provide for a greater exchange of Australian and New Zealand Anzac groups.

Mr J. Green said he was opposed to such fund raising. “If this comes to pass then I think it will affect our welfare funds in the next two years,” he said.
