Limited Access Roads
A minimum frontage limit of 6.3 chains on 11 roads designated as primary regional roads under the southern motorway proposals was fixed by the Paparua County Council at its monthly meeting last evening. The council also declared as limited access roads the full length of Dawsons road, plus Waterholes and Hamptons roads from the Main South road to the motorway, the Ellesmere and Longstaffs roads, a new road from Winchops road to the Halswell river, Shands road from the motorway to Halswell Junction road, the full length of Russley road, and Halswell Junction road from the motorway to the Main South road. Roads covered by the 6.3 chain frontage limitation are the full length of Awatea road, Buchanans road from Gilberthorpes road to the West Coast road, Halswell Junction road from the motorway to Mid-Lincoln road, Hamptons road from the motorway to Springs road, Mid-Lincoln road from Awatea road to Haytons road with reI alignment, Pound road from Yaldhurst road to Harewood road, Shands road and Springs roads from the motorway to the county boundary, and the f'lll length of Tai Tapu and Trices roads. It was decided to put
“stop” signs at Foremans road at its junction with Halswell Junction road and to give Shands road traffic priority by erecting “stop” signs at the Boundary road crossing. At the request of the Transport Department, it was decided to extend the Main South road 30 miles an hour restriction for 38 chains on either side of Barters road, and the council decided to ask that the restriction should be extended to include the Church and Trents road intersection. Reconstruction.—The council agreed to a request from the Halswell County Council to reconstruct and seal MidLincoln road in 1967-68 on a joint basis, Halswell saying that it had provided up to £3OOO for its share of the work. Rubbish Pit—lt was agreed to establish a rural area rubbish pit on a reserve at the corner of Waterholes and Cross roads, and to serve notice on the lessee to terminate the lease. The area is being used as a piggery. Denton Park—The reserves committee reported that it had discussed with architects . plans for a stand to seat 1700, with changing rooms, lavatories and a shop at Denton Park. It was stated that initial expenditure of £26,000 would provide 900 seats, and that the work could be completed in stages. Testing Station.—The Clerk
(Mr A. Kelly) reported on the estimated operation of the joint vehicle testing station, and said that with the issue of 20,000 warrants of fitness a year, and the employment of a supervisor, two mechanics and a clerk, there would be an estimated deficiency of £350 a year, taking loan charges into account. Prosecutions.—ln line with its recent policy decision, the council decided to prosecute six dog owners who had failed to register the animals after receiving seven days’ notice to do so. Pig Offal.—The council decided to ask a Tai Tapu resident for an explanation of his action in dumping pig offal in a drain at Tai Tapu, an alleged breach of the Hydatids Act Water Supply.—Mr E. H. Merrin and four others asked for extension of the Templeton high-pressure water supply main along Trents road, to the corner of Blakes road. As the extension is not in the loan scheme, the request was deferred, for consideration on completion of the programme. Taverns.—Opposition to the views of the Licensing Control Commission on the establishment of taverns was expressed in the report of the rural districts committee, and the council agreed to ask the commission what course the council could take in opposing the creation of the taverns proposed for the county.
