Texan Lear

A Western based on Shakespeare’s “King Lear" is being planned by Anthony Mann, the American film director who was responsible for such films as “El Cid" and “The Fall of the Roman Empire.” "We will have to change the names of the characters,” Mr Mann said, "as they are a little difficult to pronounce.” He added that the idea for the film had come to him while he had been watching the Royal Shakespeare Company perform the play. Ivan Moffat has been commissioned to write the script for the film, which will be called “The King.” The film is planned to be shot next spring, probably in Texas. “The storms would sound great against the Texan skyline,” Mr Mann said. “I think it will make a tremendous Western."
