World Record To Winfreux
BRISBANE. The Otaki galloper, Apa, disappointed in the £BOOO Doomoen Cup, 11 furlongs, at Doomben on Saturday, and finished well back in the race, which was won in world record time by the Victorian four-year-old, Winfreux.
Apa, tipped by his connexions to complete his Australian campaign with a unique Brisbane Cup-Doomben Cup double, finished an unimpressive 12th in the 20-horse field.
Winfreux, a firm 11/4 favourite, took the cup with ’an easy win by two lengths and a half over the Sydney Istayer, Aveniam. (12/1), with ’the South Australian, Peppino i(4O/l), a long neck away third.
Winfreux’s time of 2min ; 13.8 sec beat the previous ; world record of 2min 14.2 sec held by Man O'War and Boundless. Winfreux will be spelled in | Brisbane before going to Mel- ’ bourne to prepare for the I Caulfield Cup.
