More Pistols Stolen

(N.Z Press Association)

WANGANUI, July 10. Pistol thieves pulled off another daring robbery at the Wanganui Museum on Saturday night, stealing a German Luger automatic pistol and an old rimfire pistol.

It is the second Luger stolen from the museum in a week. The Wanganui C. 1.8. is worried that the pistols could fall into the wrong hands. Ammunition can be obtained for them.

The thieves forced their way into the museum on Saturday night and manhandled a massive showcase in the firearms display bay. They snapped the lock on the back of the showcase and removed the two 1914-18 pistols, ignoring several other antique models.

The Luger is a long barrelled Navy model and had been in the museum for several years. The museum’s chief executive officer, Mr J. C. James, discovered the burglary at 1.55 p.m. yesterday when he arrived to open the museum. Last Monday thieves stole a short-barrelled Luger and two antique pistols from another showcase.

On this occasion they ripped open a lock in front of the showcase. They also forced open a cash drawer in the office and removed a small amount of money.
