LINWOOD NOW LEADS IN SENIOR RUGBY
Linwood gained a one-point lead in the senior Rugby competition when Christchurch was surprisingly beaten by Albion in the thirteenth round of the championship on Saturday.
Playing attractive Rugby, Albion gained a merited victory, 12-9, after being down 9-0 at half-time. Its win took it into the top four teams to play for the Harewood Trophy. The other teams are Christchurch, Linwood and Suburbs.
Suburbs, equal with University B in championship points, gained its place through having scored more points for and having fewer against it.
Apart from Albion’s win, there was another surprise when Lincoln College was well beaten by Shirley.
Linwood 11, New Brighton 3. University A 11, Marist 8. University B 11, Sydenham 6. Old Boys 20, Belfast 13. Suburbs 14, MerivalePapanui 8. Shirley 13, Lincoln College 6.
Most of the other games took their appointed course and Old Boys broke its championship drought by beating Belfast to score its first success since the second round.
