CANTERBURY LOSES REP. BADMINTON

"The Press" Special Service DUNEDIN. July 10. In spite of convincing wins by the top two women, the Canterbury badminton team was beatsn by Otago, 9-7, at Ounadin on Saturday night.

The Canterbury women broke even in their singles and doubles, but Otago wa* (lightly on top in the men's events. The main interest centred on the young Canterbury player. P. Boatwood. The former national junior champion met the New Zealand representative. G Hinton, and when he ran away with the flrst set. Boatwood looked as though he could spring a major upset. 15-8. An all-Astan battle between Canterbury's Yen and the Otago University player, Wong Tat Meng, reached a climax with delicate drop shots and furious smashes. Meng ran out the winner in three close sets. When B. Crofts, of Canterbury. was beaten tn three sets by R. Maddigan, Canterbury was three games down. A. Duckmanton helped retrieve the position with a fine win over B. Huddart (Otago), and when the two Canterbury women. Miss S. Fields and Miss B. Cormack, won their singles, the match was again level. The other Otago women won their singles, and when the doubles and mixed doubles were halved, Otago had won the
