A LUCKY GROUND
Century To McMorris (N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) CANTERBURY. E. D. McMorris, the West Indian opener, emulated his performance at Canterbury on the 1963 tour when he hit a century against Kent on the first day of their three-day match on Saturday. Three years ago he made 100, and on Saturday, after a sluggish start, he reached 116 in four hours and a quarter, in an innings which Included three sixes and nine fours. This helped the West Indians to score 276 for five wickets when bad light curtailed play a few minutes before the scheduled close.
The highlight of the day’s play was a fine third wicket partnership between McMorris and D. Holford, which put on 141 in two hours and a quarter before Holford was caught on the boundary for 55.
The West Indies match against Middlesex ended in a draw on Friday. Scores: West Indies 187/8 dec. and 242 (C. C. Hunte 82; Price 3/54, Hooke 3/46), Middlesex 243/8 dec. and 85/2 (W. E. Russell 41 not out).
