To Miss Games
(N.Z. Press Association) GREYMOUTH. The national marathon champion, D. McKenzie last evening announced his withdrawal from the New Zealand Empire Games team because of a leg injury. McKenzie said that he could not go to Jamacia because of a fine stress fracture in the bone just below the left knee. Doctors had told him that he would probably not be able to race again for about three months. The 23-year-old runner said he would tell Empire Games committee officials about the decision to withdraw today. The injury had first become apparent about six weeks ago and had not responded to treatment.
