Vice-Premier Replaced

China revealed last night that Vice-Premier Lu Tlng-yl has been replaced as head of the propaganda department of the Chinese Communist Party’s central committee. Mr Lu, aged 62, was a dose friend of Mr Peng Chen, who lost his powerful post as First Secretary of the party’s Peking City Committee earlier this year, in China's first public indication that it was purging elements critical of Chairman Mao Tse-tung.
