DEATH OF GIRL
Arm Caught In Wringer
A girl was killed at Otlra on Saturday when hfer left arm was caught in the wringer of a washing machine. She was:
Dreena Marie Crombie, aged four, the daughter of Mr and Mrs Crombie, of Otira.
The accident occurred between 4 p.m. and 5 p.m. The girl was playing with her three-year-old brother, Steven, on the back lawn. They entered the washhouse and the washing machine was switched on. Dreena’s left arm was drawn into the wringer up to her shoulder and her clothing was dragged into the wringer. She may have been strangled. Steven ran to the house of a neighbour, Mr L. Fisher, who summoned assistance. The girl was released from the machine and mouth-to-mouth resuscitation was applied. Medical attention was given by Mrs E. B. Bromell, a registered nurse, who is the wife of Constable J. B. Bromell.
