Weapons And War

Sir,—Looking back at two world wars, there seems to be a pattern which can be applied to current prospects of another world war. After 1914-18, the aeroplane was a doubtful factor in war. The Spanish civil war gave the Germans and Russians the opportunity to evaluate the plane as a deliverer of bombs. The civilised world looked on complacently, and the Second World War followed, in which the efficiency of the bombers was convincing. It finished up with the delivery of the atomic bomb and posed another problem for the warmongers. It would seem that America and Russia are pursuing dubious means to evaluate methods of achieving efficiency in the use of nuclear missiles in offence and defence. When will the common man learn to curb the powers of the credit monopoly to finance such antisocial filibustering?—Yours, etc.,

W. B. BRAY. Leeston, July 8, 1966.
