LARGEST PENSTOCKS.—The first two sections of No. 1 penstock at the Aviemore hydro-electric project are now in position. The sections are being made in Christchurch. The penstocks have a diameter of 23ft, the largest of any yet installed in New Zealand. Each of the four penstocks will be made up of 13 sections, varying from 10ft to 15ft in length and weighing up to 18 tons. They will carry water from the head of the lake through the dam and into the powerhouse to drive the turbines.
