OBITUARY Mr W. A. Harlow, S.M.

NAPIER, July 10. Mr William Arthur Harlow, Stipendiary Magistrate at Napier for more than 16 years before his retirement at the end of 1964, died suddenly in Napier yesterday. He was 65.

Mr Harlow retired from the bench in December, 1964, because of ill-health. Mr Harlow was bom In Dunedin on May 13, 1901, and was educated at the Kaikorai Primary School, Otago Boys’ High School and the University of Otago. Mr Harlow was admitted as a solicitor in 1923 and called to the bar in 1928.

From 1923 until 1942 he practised at Clyde. He sold this practice to enlist in the Royal New Zealand Air Force and served for a year in Guadalcanal. In 1946, Mr Harlow was appointed Crown Solicitor in the Crown Law Office at Wellington. Two years later he was appointed to a stipendiary Magistrate. He served for two months In Wellington and three years

in Invercargill before going to Napier in 1951. His circuit once extended from Taupo to Dannevirke but in later years included only Napier, Hastings and Waipukurau. Mr Harlow is survived by ■his wife, a son and a daughter.
