Aids To Hill Farmers
The topdressing aircraft and the utility vehicle were, in his humble opinion, “God’s gift to the hill country fanner,” Mr P. L Burbury, of Sherwood, Waiau, said in a paper presented to this weeks conference on hill country development at Waipara. “So let our Government see to it that there are sufficient of both of these machines available to allow us to do what is asked of us.” Placing on record his appreciation of what topdressing pilots and their ground staff had done in
boosting their production, Mr Burbury said that there was no saying what further increases in production could be expected in the next 10 years with improvements in topdressing aircraft and ancillary equipment Utility vehicles, he said, were as necessary in the hill country today as the horse was 30 years ago. However they were expensive and if these vehicles could be brought into the country without sales tax, as was the case in some countries, this would be of considerable assistance.
