HAMILTON, July 8.
A three-year-old heifer al Panetapu, near Te Awamutu, has set an Australasian record for Jersey production by producing 10151 b of butterfat in 300 days. Mr A. T. Bennett, Gem’s owner, said the record was not official until this week when he received the results . of Gem’s Anal test ■ “I knew it would be a record,” said Mr Bennett '“Even without the final test, Gem was up to 9501 b for the season.” The heifer, whose pedigree . title is North Glen Supreme Gem was bred on the farm I by Mr Bennett’s father.
Mr Bennett milks 60 cows, but he runs the top six as a separate herd and feeds and handles them especially for showing. This year, the second best cow gave 8341 b of butterfat for the season, and the third best 7981 b.
