WALK FROM KAIAPOI
“Operation 21” Plan This morning at least 32 young people from Kaiapoi, representing eight youth groups, wilT walk from Kaiapoi to Christchurch in an effort to draw attention to hunger problems in other countries and to raise a further sum for the Kaiapoi committee of the “Operation 21” campaign. The Kaiapoi secretary of the campaign (Miss J. Lynskey) said that response to the appeal to local businessmen to act as sponsors for the walk had been disappointing, but the committee were very grateful to the 11 business firms which had generously given their support In addition a number of anonymous donors from church groups were supporting the walkers. It is expected there will be a large group leaving the Kaiapoi Borough Council Chambers at 9 a.m. for the walk. Miss Lynskey said that any members of the public are welcome to take part. It will not be a race and it is expected the walkers will reach the C.0.R.5.0. headquarters in Christchurch about lunch-time, when a street presentation will be made to the district organiser (Mr G. Coley) of approximately £45.
