RACING Natter Impressive In Training Sprint
Natter showed race-winning dash in a six-furlong sprint on the No. 1 grass at Riccarton yesterday.
Misjudge, whose training runs are invariably of a good standard, was no match for the three-year-old and finished four lengths behind her.
With excellent footing to help her. Natter sped over eix furlongs in 1:16 2-5, the last four in 49 and the final three in 36 3-5. Natter was ridden by her race rider, B. Edens. The light-weight, A. H. Eastwood, rode Misjudge. Natter has obviously benefited from her race at Ashburton, and will be a strong light-;
weight contender in the Donald Grant Memorial at Wash-! dyke on Saturday. Sound Trial Hawkins (D. N. Hadfield) and White Rajah (D. Tucker) ran a mile in Imin 45sec as part of their preparation for the Thomas Seaton Memorial on Saturday. Sir Limond (W. H. Beck) joined in near the five furlongs and they ran the last half-mile in 49 4-5. Sir Limond will have his first start for six months in the Beaconsfield Improvers' Handicap at Washdyke. J. R. Dowling will ride him. Summer Lad (G. Gullery) ran seven furlongs in 1:30 2-5. showing his usual keenness early in the gallop, but taking 52 for the last halfmile. Pikelet (R. Moir) dashed in from the half-mile in 49 to beat Mushtara (A. Reuben) by half a length. Later Roman General (A. H. Eastwood) also recorded 49 and did his work attractively. This promising two-year-old will race against his contemporaries at the Riccarton carnival, starting with the Haldon Stakes at the Christchurch Hunt Club's meeting. The imported Royal Student (A. J. Stokes) recorded 50 4-5, which was equalled by his stablemate Gee Jay (G. W.
Mein). Gee Jay had the two-year-old Golden Desert (R. Murphy) for a companion for the last three furlongs. Manana (Stokes) ran half a mile in 51 1-5. and went about his work keenly. He has been entered for Trentham. Clear Lead Kalimera (B. Edens), which may race on the second day lof the South Canterbury meeting, led Young Baron (D. |N. Hadfield) by a length and ia half after running half a i mile in 51 4-5.
Channel Fleet (G. Gullery) recorded 51. The Beaconsfield Improvers’ Hack Handicap at Washdyke will be her first race since the spring. Master Sheeny (W. Jackson) and Sleeky Fox (W. H. Beck) were better than Lady Entwine over half a mile, run in 51 3-5.
Lovely Clover (K. Quayle) jumped three brush fences neatly. She was brought down at the first fence in the steeples at Ashburton, but escaped injury, and has an engagement at Washdyke.
