Parliament’s Diary
The Budget debate continued through most of the sitting hours of Parliament yesterday.
Short formal business included the tabling of the annual reports of the University Grants Committee and university institutions.
Speakers in the Budget debate were— Government: Mr J. R. Harrison (Hawkes Bay), Mr J. B. Gordon (Clutha), the Minister of Lands (Mr Gerard), the Minister of defence (Mr Eyre), Mrs E. Tombleson (Gisborne), Sir Leslie Munro (Waipa).
Opposition: Mr W. A. Fraser (St Kilda), Mr G. A. Spooner (Wanganui), Mr J. Mathison (Avon), Mr P. A. Amos (Manurewa), Mr M. Rata (Northern Maori).
