HOTELKEEPERS’ LICENCES
Police Oppose One Application An application for renewal of a hotelkeeper’s licence in respect of the Railways Hotel. Rakaia. was adjourned until July 26 by the Canterbury Licensing District Committee yesterday. Renewal of the licence was opposed by the police. The present licence will be extended to July 26. Several other licensing applications will also be heard on that date when it is hoped the findings of the Licensing Control Commission will be available. The hearing will be public.
All other applications for the annual renewal of licences in the committee’s district were granted. The district includes the area between the Waimakariri and Rakaia rivers, Rakaia, Chertsey, Methven, Christchurch city and suburbs, and Banks Peninsula. An application to close the White Hart Hotel was granted, as was an application for a tourist house keeper's licence for the White Heron Lodge. The committee comprised Messrs E. S. J. Crutchley, S.M. (chairman), W. E. Olds, R. S. Lester, T. F. Carter, and G. P. A. de Latour. SeniorSergeant O. D. Wilkes and Sergeant J. D. Burrell appeared for the police.
