Out For Rest Of Season
(N.Z. Press Association • GISBORNE. The Poverty Bay Rugby Union last evening suspended a player for the remainder of the season and Mr B Wolstenholme, the union president, said that any action by referees to stamp out rough and foul play would be fully supported by the union. A special meeting of the management committee discussed measures to curb a repetition of incidents in the Young Maori Party v. Marist match on Saturday when W. Whaitiri, a Y.M.P. forward, was ordered off.
The judicial committee's recommendation that Whaitiri be suspended for the rest of the season, bearing in mind his past record was adopted.
The committee will notify all clubs under its control that rough and foul play will not be tolerated. Players will be told that offenders can be ordered off by referees without prior warning. (Earlier report. Page 19.)
