TOO BIG FOR TUNNEL.—This half section of a turbine stay-ring for Aviemore went over Evans Pass yesterday instead of through the road tunnel because of its height. The 25-ton stay-ring was unloaded from the Danish freighter Rikke Skou by the floating crane Rapaki. It is 13ft high, and 16ft 8in from the ground on the truck. The maximum height allowed in the road tunnel is 14ft. The stayring was made in Canada to the order of the New Zealand Electricity Department. Another section is on the wharf at Lyttelton ready to go to Aviemore.
