Old Ploughs Wanted
Single furrow ploughs, many of which now lie unused on farms throughout the country, are wanted for shipment through C.0.R.5.0. to countries like Korea and India. Any farmers who still have one, and would be prepared to give it away, are asked to get in touch with the Canterbury public relations officer (Mr C. N. Todd). A single furrow plough, just lying in a farmer’s yard, could be used by 50 farmers in a country like India, Mr Todd told the organising committee for the 1967 world ploughing contest. “Are there many around?” he asked. “Most of them are antiques, now,” a member replied. Mr Todd is hoping he will receive a good response from Canterbury farmers. With the world ploughing contest here next year, he said he thought a gift of this nature would be a worth-while gesture. “Once we know how many ploughs there are, and where they are, then we can arrange for them to be collected,” he said.
