Obituary
MRS J. BAILLIE Mrs Jean Baillie, the daughter of a woman who ran a private nursing home at Methven during the First World War, and who herself fulfilled a need in the Methven district when an influenza epidemic was raging, died at Kirriemuir, Scotland, recently. Mrs Baillie was the wife of the late Mr J. Baillie, of Musselburgh, and a daughter of Mrs Grace Livingston. She is survived by a daughter, Dorothy (Mrs G. Meltzer, of Southern Rhodesia), and two sons—James (a veterinary surgeon in Kirriemuir) and David (a Government official at Farnborough). Fifty years ago, Mrs Baillie, then unmarried, opened the first pharmacy in Methven. During the 1918 influenza epidemic, she worked untiringly to supply the large quantities of medicine required. Mrs Baillie also played a prominent part in the social life of the community, and was an active worker in the Presbyterian Church. She was recognised for her beautiful embroidery. Mrs Baillie relinquished her business several years ago, but until a few weeks of her death helped qualified dispensers in a part-time capacity.
