Decimal Change To Be Explained
"The Press" Spacial Service WELLINGTON, June 27. “Somewhere close in every area of New Zealand, there is one of the 500 volunteer speakers, trained in decimal currency matters at a series of ‘teach-ins’ conducted by the Decimal Currency Board,” the chairman (Mr S. L. Moses) said in a statement.
“We want the people to realise there is now someone very handy everywhere to tell them all about the change to dollars and cents next year,” he said. About 150 people attended a “teach-in” at Auckland, nearly 200 in Wellington and about 80 in each of Christchurch and Dunedin. “We have at least one contact in every town or city. We hope community organisations such as Chambers of Commerce, Rotary, Plunket mothers’ clubs and all groups wishing to help their members will arrange for a talk about the change.” Those trained at the “teachins” were also equipped with a full “speaker’s kit”, so they had complete expert knowledge of the change. This kit would be kept up-to-date and revised from time to time.
“We have gone to a lot of trouble to form, train and equip this corps of volunteers. They are available and very keen to help the people underst' 1 the change. We hope cc.umunity groups will make full use of their services,” Mr Moses said. Members of the speakers’ corps in this district are:
