HORROR FILMS ON SUNDAYS
Association Seeks Ban "The Press” Special Service WELLINGTON, June 27. The Motion Picture Exhibitors’ Association has asked exhibitors not to screen horror films on Sundays. The request comes after a decision by the Wellington City Council to allow all cinemas on the Sunday roster to show films with any kind of censor’s certificate. The Wellington representative on the Dominion council of the association, Mr H. Griffith, said the council’s decision had resulted from an application made by the Roxy Theatre, of which he was manager.
The application was inspired by a desire to increase the range and quality of films available to the public on Sundays. The association had warned exhibitors that failure to follow its request could force the council to rescind its decision. Theatres we,o, however, still free to show horror films after midnight on Sunday, he said.
