N.Z. Rider To Race In U.K.
The captain of New Zealand’s motor-cycle road racing team to the Isle of Man, N. J. Landrebe, of Dunedin, has entered for the forthcoming Brands Hatch 500-mile classic in England.
He will share a 650 c.c. B.S.A. Lightning with a well-known English rider, R. Gould. Landrebe and New Zealand’s only current woman road racing motor-cyclist, 23-year-old Miss Diana Foote, were married in England last Saturday. Mrs Landrebe com peted with distinction in the last New Zealand Grand Prix meeting at Ruapuna Park She left for England shortly afterwards. While she is in England Mrs Landrebe hopes to compete in motc-cycle racing, but first has to overcome the barrier of officialdom which frowns on women in rnoto’cycle sports.
Her husband intends to vary his racing with some short circuit competition on a very potent 250 c.c. Bultaco two-stroke he has purchased. Fears that the Isle of Man T.T. races would be cancelled because of the seamen’s union strike have now disappeared, although there may still be some doubt whether they will carry world championship points. The races will now be held on Sunday, Augustus, Wednesday, August 31 and Friday, September 2. The Honda factory has already indicated that it will be sending a full team in spite of the lateness of the meeting, and this should force all other major racing factories to follow suit.
