Long Plunket Service
Mrs D. Borrie, who has served on the committee of, the Waimate branch of the' Plunket Society for 35 years, was presented with a longservice certificate by Mrs A.■ C. Wigley at the recent annual meeting. Mrs Borrie has ’ served as president, vicepresident and secretary. Dr. N. C. Begg, medical director of the Plunket Society, described his recent visit to South-east Asia and India. In almost all the areas, he visited severe protein deficiency and malnutrition were ■ evident among children. He said New Zealand was' helping considerably with ■ gifts of protein biscuits? which had been developed in research laboratories and were palatable, easily transported and did not deteriorate in bad climates. Two such biscuits were sufficient to supply the daily protein needs of one child. In Samoa the mothers of sick children were grateful, for the cottage which had been provided for them 1 through the assistance of the! Plunket branches of South Canterbury.
