LINWOOD MANAGES TO HOLD RUGBY LEAD
Linwood was hard pressed but held on grimly to beat University A in the main Rugby match on Saturday. Linwood remains at the top of the ladder, with Christchurch.
Only in the lower orders were there some minor surprises. Sydenham continued its upward march by beating New Brighton; and Marist left the bottom of the ladder with a win against Old Boys, which has not won a game since the second round.
In the struggle for top places before the first round ends, one of the more important games was between Lincoln College and University B. Lincoln College finished strongly to win by five points. Results were:— Marist 11, Old Boys 8. Syuenham 12, New Brighton 3. Suburbs 8, Shirley 3. Lincoln College 8, University B 3.
Albion 23, Belfast 12. Christchurch 25, MerivalePapanui 3. Linwood 14, University A 11. Points are:—
