Part-Time Player Wins Table Tennis

A part-time player who has made only occasional appearances in top table tennis this season won the Cantebury Roman Catholic table tennis senior men’s title in Christchurch yesterday. P. J. Ives defeated J. E. Kyle in a long five-game semi-final and went on to beat the Canterbury representative, K. Ward, in straight games. His rock-like defence, varied by an occasional attacking shot, proved too much for Ward, who had not the experience to vary his game.

A good entry was received for the men’s open events but the women’s events were poorty supported. B. T. Edwards and R. J. Sanderson won the men’s open doubles, while Miss M.
